Lake Champlain and the American Revolution

As the United States marks the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution in 2026, Lake Champlain Maritime Museum invites all to explore the vital role of Lake Champlain and the Champlain Valley during this pivotal time in our nation’s founding.

Lake Champlain was not just a backdrop to the American Revolution, it was a strategic waterway, a contested borderland, and the site of naval innovation, conflict, personal choices, and lasting consequences. From the Battle of Valcour Bay to the construction of America’s first naval fleet, the lake played a critical role in shaping the early fight for independence. Join us in 2026 and make a deeper connection with the people, ships, and artifacts from the American Revolution on Lake Champlain.
