Open Sailing Finale!

Get out on the water on a museum sailboat and enjoy Lake Champlain one last time at our Fall 2026 open sailing finale! Throughout the day, Sailing Programs Manager Matt Harrison will also be demonstrating our new natural linen spritsail aboard our Shad Boat Mac, which was crafted this July through a partnership with the Weaver’s Croft, the Sailcloth Study Group, and Gambell & Hunter Sail Loft during a conference titled “By Hand: Reclaiming the Art of Historical Sail Making”.
Open Dinghy Sailing will be available from 11am to 4pm on our final day. Open Dinghy Sailing is pay-what-you-can with a suggested rate of $40 per 90-minute booking.
The Museum’s Split-Rock Dinghies can fit a maximum of two adults, or one adult and one child (under 13) each. If you are interested in renting out one of our larger Beetle Cat Boats or our replica Shad Boat Mac, please feel free to reserve a time and then reach out to Matt Harrison (matth@lcmm.org; 952-303-1382).
Participants should have previous on-water experience in a sailboat or other small watercraft and be able to swim. Come prepared to sail, wear attire that is okay to get wet. Open Dinghy Sailing is subject to inclement weather and will be cancelled in the event of strong winds, thunderstorms, or heavy rain.

Please note: We cannot offer an introduction to sailing at Open Dinghy Hours! Participants must have prior experience in a sailing vessel or small watercraft. Simple operating instructions for our custom dinghies will be provided and a safety boat will be present. Check our sailing calendar for upcoming classes and programs.
