Music Traditions of the Champlain Valley

Explore the music, instruments, and some music history from our region in a special free music-themed day at Lake Champlain Maritime Museum! Learn about and try different instruments, listen to Abenaki songs, learn about interesting artifacts and stories from our collection, and more. This is a free themed day with a range of different events and activities to join in.
SCHEDULE:
- 11 a.m.–1 p.m.: Collections Corner
Step into our exhibit “Underwater Archaeology: Diving into the Stories of People and Canal Boats on Lake Champlain” to explore artifacts and stories of music from the canal era on Lake Champlain. - 12–2 p.m.: Instrument Petting Zoo with Vermont Folklife
Get up close and personal with a variety of musical instruments! Learn about, touch, and play a wide variety of traditional acoustic instruments like fiddles, ukuleles, sarangi, guitars, banjos, mandolins, drums, kazoos, maracas, thumb pianos, tin whistles, and more. - 12–2 p.m.: Abenaki Music with Jesse Bruchac
Listen to songs and learn about Abenaki music language history and traditional stories.
