Collections Corner: Textile Cleaning

July 2, 2022 , 11:00 am 3:00 pm

Free

How do museums keep textiles in their collections clean? Join us on Saturday, July 2 and learn the basics of textile cleaning. Our Collections Manager will explore the differences between wet and dry cleaning (spoiler: this is a little different than taking your suits to the cleaners) and then demonstrate the textile cleaning process. As part of the demonstration, we will clean one of the topsails from the Aladdin, a boat built in 1928 and used by campers from Camp Dingley Dell on the Champlain Islands until 1939.

Attendees are also invited to hop in on a tie-dye workshop as well to make your own tie-dyed tee inspired by the multi-colored sails of the Aladdin.
