Youth teams line up at the start of a race

Youth Rowing

Due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19 and the closure of schools for in-person instruction in Vermont, our Spring Youth Rowing season has been cancelled. Teens are always welcome to join our regular Adult Rowing Clubs this summer and we look forward to seeing you back on the water in the fall!

Youth rowing at Lake Champlain Maritime Museum puts to use the pilot gigs made by our boat building students in the first part of the Champlain Longboats program. We currently have 20 boats in our fleet.

Our inclusive “you show, you row” policy involves over 700 youth annually. The youth rowing program provides a positive exercise option and traditional school sport alternative for any student.

Join a Youth Team

Youth rowing seasons occur in the fall, from September through November, and the spring, from March through May. Rowing teams meet after school and practice two to three times a week.

Teams participate in regional races including Lake Champlain Maritime Museum’s Vermont races and three youth rowing competitions sponsored by the Hull Lifesaving Museum in Massachusetts.

There are currently youth rowing teams at the following schools:

  • Vergennes Middle School
  • Vergennes High School
  • Mt. Abe Middle School
  • Mt. Abe High School
  • Rice Memorial High School
  • Burlington High School
  • South Burlington High School
  • Champlain Valley Union High School

Students at any of our participating schools can join the school team. Students whose school is not part of the program are welcome to join other teams – just contact us and we’ll find the closest team to you.
