SUMMARY:Collections Corner: Behind the Scenes
DESCRIPTION:Where do the Museum’s Archaeology and Collections teams do their work? What happens to artifacts once they are conserved? Find out in this free behind-the-scenes tour of our Nautical Archaeology Center! Take a glimpse into the workspace of an archaeologist and see the brand-new collections storage area while learning about items in the Museum’s collection. \n\n\n\nFree tours will run every 30 minutes at the following times: \n\n\n\n\n11:00 AM\n\n\n\n11:30 AM\n\n\n\n12:00 PM\n\n\n\n12:30 PM\n\n\n\n\nThis program will take place in the Nautical Archaeology Center. The space is climate-controlled and can be accessed via paved path and ramp\, with a few feet of traverse across grass. Staff will teach the basics of archaeological documentation and demonstrate how artifacts now in the Collection were recovered. Learn about the importance of context in both archaeological investigation and Museum interpretation through this program\, and try making your own observations! \n\n\n\nThe shipwreck simulator is outdoors and can be reached by traversing several yards of flat\, grassy terrain.
