Position Summary:

The Facilities Manager is a full-time position that requires a motivated, ‘hands-on” person to perform daily maintenance projects and maintain high standards of appearance and safety of our fourteen-building Museum campus and working waterfront. The Manager will create a short and long-term facilities plan and budget, oversee building systems contracts and R&M including security, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, landscaping and janitorial and is responsible for all applicable code compliance.

Department/Supervisor:  Operations/Executive Directors

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily inspections of grounds and buildings ensuring appearance and readiness
  • Prepare and manage annual R&M and facilities plan and budget
  • Coordinate scheduling and respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner
  • Respond to building security alerts ensuring proper security protocols are being followed
  • Maintain a safe work environment for all employees
  • Manage maintenance contracts and correspond with vendors and subcontractors
  • Coordinate and manage volunteers and/or staff for specific facilities projects
  • Prepare and file reports with government and regulatory authorities as needed

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with light construction using a variety of tools and performing general repairs and maintenance
  • Comprehensive knowledge of methods and techniques of the trades
  • Experience tracking expenses and working with budgets
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, problem solve and manage time effectively
  • Must be able to work independently and communicate effectively
  • Coordinate with other museum staff to minimize impact of R&M activities upon museum functions
  • Ability to withstand the physical demands of a position of this nature

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years college or equivalent
  • 2 years Facilities Management experience or related field
