SUMMARY:Early Tourism on the Champlain Canal\, Bicentennial Talk with Matt Harrison
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an introduction of the newly published book by Lake Champlain Maritime Museum\, titled The Champlain Canal: 200 Years of Change.  The book features content by historians\, archeologists\, and biologists on the past and present evolutions of the Champlain Canal\, which celebrated its bicentennial in 2023. Matt’s talk will focus on early tourism on the waters of the canal and on Lake Champlain\, in particular the accounts of two women travelers who recorded their vacations along the canal in the 1890s — Florence Snedeker and Augusta Brown. \n\n\n\nThis talk will take place at the Plattsburgh Public Library and will be given by Matt Harrison\, Sailing Programs Manager at Lake Champlain Maritime Museum.

SUMMARY:Boat Shop Open House
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the building of our newest boat built by students! \n\n\n\nOver the course of this school year\, a group of students from Middlebury Union High School and the Long Trail Program have been participating in our alternative education boat building program. These boat building students have been coming to the Museum’s boat shop weekly to learn\, work with their hands\, and come together to build a 25’ wooden rowing gig that will join the Museum’s fleet for education\, school rowing teams\, expeditions\, and the public.It’s been an incredible journey for all of them\, including a trip to the forest to learn how to select a tree that will be used to build a boat and literally building the boat from tree to finished vessel with guidance from expert boat builders. \n\n\n\nJoin us in the boat shop on Wednesday\, March 19 for a special Open House as our student boatbuilders demonstrate their boat building skills and knowledge gained.   \n\n\n\nThis event is free to attend\, no RSVP needed. Family\, friends\, faculty\, and supporters are welcome!

DESCRIPTION:Explore the historic institutions of Addison County with a traveling winter book club! Between January and April we will discuss a book relevant to each historical institution we visit. Dive into American history with a book selected by Lake Champlain Maritime Museum\, cozy up to a welcoming novel at the Bixby\, contemplate social justice at the Rokeby\, and learn about new Vermonters at the Sheldon.  \n\n\n\nEach discussion will take place from 1-2PM on the last Saturday of each month as a hybrid meeting – come in person for tea and snacks or stay involved online via Zoom. Join all of the meetings or just one!
