Or maybe you just really want to finally give a rowing gig a try?  \n\n\n\nJoin us for DISCOVERY DAY\, a special free hands-on day for families and adventurous souls to try just about EVERYTHING the Museum has to offer all in ONE DAY!  \n\n\n\nLearn how to row in our longboats\, try out our underwater ROV\, get a behind-the-scenes look at our exhibits and how we 3D scan artifacts\, step onto the Giant Lake Champlain Map\, practice fly fishing and other fishing skills\, talk with boat building experts\, step into the forge\, and so much more.  \n\n\n\nFly fishing casting demo will be lead by Liz Orr in collaboration with Vt Fish and Wildlife and Liz Orr’s Walk and Wade Guide Service. \n\n\n\nFood will be available for purchase with cash only from Chef Maty who will be serving Mexican cuisine\, tacos\, quesadillas\, and tamales.  \n\n\n\n\nPrograms Policy and Waiver for On-Water Activites

DESCRIPTION:Commemorate the 250th anniversary of our nation’s Independence Day on July 4 with Lake Champlain Maritime Museum. Throughout the day we’ll have hands-on activities\, kids’ games\, documentary screening\, tours of our new exhibit\, Fragments: Voices of the American Revolution on Lake Champlain\, and more!  \n\n\n\nSchedule Highlights:  \n\n\n\n\n10:30 AM: Reading of the Declaration of Independence \n\n\n\n10:30 AM: Sail 1776\, meet at the Front Desk\n\n\n\n11:00 AM: Tour of the exhibit Fragments: Voices of the American Revolution on Lake Champlain \n\n\n\n11:00 AM–3:00 PM: Hands-on educational activities for all ages \n\n\n\n12:00 PM–3:00 PM: Rowland E. Robinson history and game with Rokeby Museum\n\n\n\n1:00 PM: Tour of the exhibit Fragments: Voices of the American Revolution on Lake Champlain \n\n\n\n2:00 PM: Screening of segments from Ken Burns’ The American Revolution documentary (details below) \n\n\n\n3:00 PM: Tour of the exhibit Fragments: Voices of the American Revolution on Lake Champlain \n\n\n\n\nOur educational activities include interpretation on the giant map of the Lake Champlain watershed\, docent hours on our Revolutionary War replica gunboat Philadelphia and in Fragments\, where visitors can try the VR experience and think like a nautical archaeologist. Additional programs include live demonstrations on how people used 18th century boat building tools to build the Patriot fleet on Lake Champlain\, and how archaeologists use 3D scanning technology to study and recreate historical artifacts recovered from shipwrecks.  \n\n\n\nIndependence Day programs and activities are free to attend for all ages\, no registration required. Food will be available for purchase in collaboration with Viva El Sabor. \n\n\n\nScreening Description  \n\n\n\n\nTotal run time: 42m\, 13s\n\n\n\nClip description: This screening reel brings to life the stories of the American Revolution\, exploring the ideas and conflicts that ignited independence and the struggles and sacrifices of soldiers\, women\, and Native and African American allies. It reveals how this pivotal period shaped not just the original Thirteen Colonies\, but the future of the entire continent. \n\n\n\n\nCorporate funding for THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION was provided by Bank of America. DESCRIPTION:Have you always wanted to join a field trip with your kids and family here at the Museum? We’re excited to welcome families to Lake Champlain Maritime Museum for our first Family Field Trip Day! This free day is for the whole family to participate in hands-on fun together as you explore archaeology\, history\, and our engaging campus. \n\n\n\nActivities will focus on archaeology\, boats\, and conservation and we’ll even have a scavenger hunt in one of our exhibit buildings! Learn about how archaeologists work in the field\, get a peek into the conservation process\, and more. We’ll have multiple stations\, activities\, and guided tours for you to join throughout the day. Here’s an overview of the Family Field Trip Day schedule: \n\n\n\n\n10:00–10:15 AM: Welcome & Introduction to Archaeology\n\n\n\n10:15–11:45 AM: Archaeology activities including the shipwreck simulator\, archaeology dig kits\, and underwater ROVs\n\n\n\n11:45 AM–12:30 PM: BYO Picnic Lunch\n\n\n\n12:30–2:00 PM: Museum activities including guided exhibit tours\, conservation lab\, and more\n\n\n\n2:00–4:00 PM: Free time\, scavenger hunt!\n\n\n\n\nAll members of the family are welcome! This experience is free to attend with advance registration is required for all attendees.
