SUMMARY:Shipwreck Tour
DESCRIPTION:Explore a shipwreck… without getting wet! There are hundreds of historic shipwrecks in Lake Champlain. Join us as we take a tour boat to the site of the Champlain II shipwreck and go for a “dive” using an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). Our robotic camera sends back real-time video to an on-board monitor as we share the vessel’s dramatic story. Don’t miss this incredible experience- for all ages! \n\n\n\nWe will gather on the Museum green at 10:00 and proceed to Basin Harbor as a group at 10:10 to begin the tour\, which will run from 10:30 to noon. The walk to Basin Harbor is approximately a half-mile on pavement\, and visitors are welcome to drive if needed. For accessibility requests and information please contact us by email at info@lcmm.org or by phone at 802-475-2022. \n\n\n\nTickets are $25 for kids and $40 for adults. \n\n\n\nPlease note that due to weather conditions\, the lake level may fluctuate. In higher water conditions\, the lake is perfectly safe to enjoy by boat\, but our small ROV may not be able to dive. No matter the lake level\, you will still be able to go on a boat tour\, see shipwreck footage\, and hear exciting stories! In the event of cancellation due to severe weather\, we will notify you in advance and tickets will be refunded or transferred to an open date. \n\n\n\n\nRegister Here

Bring your own pair of binoculars if you have them- we will have a couple of pairs to share with those who do not have binoculars\, but supply is limited. We will provide canoes\, paddles\, and personal flotation devices (PFDs). We also recommend participants bring a hat and sunscreen to stay protected from the sun! This program is weather-dependent and we will communicate cancellations the morning of the scheduled outing. \n\n\n\n\nRegister Here!

SUMMARY:Is It Cyanobacteria?
DESCRIPTION:Ever wondered if your local pond or lake was safe for recreation? Cyanobacteria\, sometimes referred to as blue-green algae\, is naturally found in water and under the right conditions\, can form large blooms that release toxins into the water. \n\n\n\nAt the Maritime Museum\, we test for cyanobacteria every week to make sure our harbor is ready for boating\, swimming\, and fishing. Join us in North Harbor to learn what to look for and help keep you and your pets safe. A demonstration of how to test the water and determine if cyanobacteria is present will be shown with information on how you can try it at home!

SUMMARY:Flora and Fauna of Lake Champlain
DESCRIPTION:What plants and animals live in the Lake Champlain Basin? Which species are native and which ones are invasive? Come learn about the vast species that inhabit the Lake Champlain Basin in this on-water program! From birds and fish to aquatic plants\, the flora and fauna of Lake Champlain are sure to excite! During this 2-hour on-water program\, you will have a chance to learn about the different species living in the Lake Champlain Basin\, the habitats of different species\, which species are invasive\, and how the flora and fauna of the Basin interact with one another. This program uses the Museum’s fleet of canoes and is best suited for those who feel they can get in and out of a canoe\, which requires a sense of balance as well as sitting down into a low boat\, and an ability to paddle for short distances. Children under 10 can take a middle seat at the bottom of the boat\, where they will just go along for the ride with no paddling expectation. Be sure to bring clothing that can get wet as well as water to stay hydrated. We will provide canoes\, paddles and personal flotation devises (PFDs). We also recommend you bring a hat and sunscreen to stay protected from the sun. This program is weather-dependent and we will communicate cancellations the morning of the scheduled outing.   \n\n\n\n\nClick Here

SUMMARY:Introduction to Champlain Longboats
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the history of our iconic pilot gigs and how they are built! Open to all experience levels\, beginner to expert\, this 2-hour experience gives you the opportunity to tour the Museum\, learn how our wooden rowing gigs are built\, and get into a boat to learn how to row (or practice your skills)! \n\n\n\nYou will have the option to go out on the lake and row if there are 4-6 people registered for the day. If there are 3 or fewer people registered\, you will still have the opportunity to get into a boat and learn the rowing stroke\, but we will stay docked due to the minimum number of participants needed to safely operate the boat on the water. Participants must be 10 or older to row\, but younger children are welcome to come along as passengers. \n\n\n\nBe sure to bring clothing that can get wet\, as well as water to stay hydrated. We will provide longboats\, oars\, and personal flotation devices (PFDs). We also recommend you bring a hat and sunscreen to stay protected from the sun. This program is weather-dependent\, and we will communicate cancellations on the morning of the scheduled outing. \n\n\n\nAccessibility: The boats are stable and do not flip\, but are wobbly to enter and exit\, so a good sense of bodily balance is helpful. There is an 18-inch step down from the dock into the boat. The boats are stationed at the waterfront in North Harbor\, accessible by a moderately steep gravel path that leads to an ADA accessible dock. For accommodations or questions\, please contact us at onwater@lcmm.org. \n\n\n\n\nRegister Here!

Join us in North Harbor to learn what to look for and help keep you and your pets safe. A demonstration of how to test the water and determine if cyanobacteria is present will be shown with information on how you can try it at home!
