DESCRIPTION:History lies in the depths of Lake Champlain\, waiting to share its secrets and stories. In 2026\, we’re opening up our vaults and taking a DEEP DIVE into the past with Museum experts\, archaeologists\, historians\, and educators in our free evening conversation series!  \n\n\n\nDevyn Cabral (they/them)\, the Museum’s Collections Assistant\, will tell the story the second day of the Battle of Lake Champlain. As morning came on October 12\, 1776\, Patriot soldiers had already been rowing south for hours. Devyn will explain their frantic retreat from the perspective of sailors like John Fulton\, whose weapons were destroyed during the fight and had to escape with nothing to protect himself. They will also discuss how the attack the day prior affected the loved ones of soldiers through the eyes of Susanna Leech\, whose husband was killed during the battle.   \n\n\n\nJoin us every other Wednesday from June through October for a free “Deep Dives” talk. DESCRIPTION:History lies in the depths of Lake Champlain\, waiting to share its secrets and stories. In 2026\, we’re opening up our vaults and taking a DEEP DIVE into the past with Museum experts\, archaeologists\, historians\, and educators in our free evening conversation series!  \n\n\n\nPatricia Reid (she/her)\, the Museum’s Director of Collections\, will tell the story of the third day of the Battle of Lake Champlain. Early that morning\, Patriot soldiers surrendered the row galley Washington\, and she’ll relate that moment from the perspective of Lyman Noble\, who was captured with other crewmembers. The remaining vessels from the Patriot fleet then fled into the shallow waters of Arnold’s Bay. In between the two fleets\, Patricia will tell the story of nine-year-old Sally (Kellogg) Markham and her family\, who escaped in a bateau as cannon fire raged overhead. Another child\, Squire Ferris\, was also a witness to the violence – and his life remained swept up in it until nearly the end of the Revolutionary War.  \n\n\n\nJoin us every other Wednesday from June through October for a free “Deep Dives” talk.
