SUMMARY:Deep Dives: Artifact Conservation
DESCRIPTION:History lies in the depths of Lake Champlain\, waiting to share its secrets and stories. In 2026\, we’re opening up our vaults and taking a DEEP DIVE into the past with Museum experts\, archaeologists\, historians\, and educators in our free evening conversation series! Join us every other Wednesday from June through October for a free “Deep Dives” talk. Each evening will include an expert presentation and time for questions and conversation at the end.  \n\n\n\nJoining us on Wednesday\, June 3 is Staff Archaeologist Taylor Picard\, who will be speaking on the topic of artifact conservation. \n\n\n\nEarly on in designing the Fragments: Voices of the American Revolution on Lake Champlain\, the exhibit design team knew that a major feature was going to be the inclusion of artifacts from the Museum’s research work at Arnold’s Bay. The objective of the new exhibit is to tell personal stories through the lens of archaeology. To achieve this\, the archaeology and collections teams chose a series of artifacts that is linked to the lives of the soldiers that fought on Lake Champlain during the American Revolution. While many of these artifacts had previously been conserved or put on display\, the new artifacts from Arnold’s Bay needed to be prepared for the new exhibit. This presentation while explore how the Museum prepares archaeological materials for its exhibits\, and challenges that we face during conservation. \n\n\n\nDeep Dives is free to attend with registration. A complimentary drink from Shacksbury cider is included with your free registration.  \n\n\n\n\nRegister Here!
