DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to welcome homeschool families to Lake Champlain Maritime Museum for our Spring Homeschool Day! This day will focus on the ecology of Lake Champlain. Featured activities and topics include:  \n\n\n\n\n\nA waterfront scavenger hunt  \n\n\n\nFish types of Lake Champlain \n\n\n\nMicroscope fun with plankton and other macroinvertebrates \n\n\n\nThreats to and ways to protect Lake Champlain   \n\n\n\n\n\nAll members of the family are welcome to join. DESCRIPTION:A free day for anglers of all ages to learn about fishing with the Museum and Vermont Fish and Wildlife!   \n\n\n\nThis relaxed day will give you an introduction to fishing regulations (as well as your own copy) and then you’ll be able to spend your time fishing at the Museum’s waterfront. Fishing poles\, bait\, and other equipment will be available courtesy of Vermont Fish and Wildlife’s “Let’s Go Fishing” Program.   \n\n\n\nDue to limited equipment\, advanced free registration is strongly encouraged\, but walk-ins are also welcome.   \n\n\n\nPlease note that children must be accompanied by an adult. \n\n\n\n\nRegister Here!

SUMMARY:Boat Launch Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the launch of our newest boat built by students in Lake Champlain! \n\n\n\nOver the course of this school year\, a group of students from Middlebury Union High School and the Long Trail Program have been participating in our alternative education boat building program. These boat building students have been coming to the Museum’s boat shop weekly to learn\, work with their hands\, and come together to build a 25’ wooden rowing gig that will join the Museum’s fleet for education\, school rowing teams\, expeditions\, and the public. It’s been an incredible journey for all of them\, including a trip to the forest to learn how to select a tree that will be used to build a boat and literally building the boat from tree to finished vessel with guidance from expert boat builders. \n\n\n\nOn May 22\, all parents\, teachers\, staff\, friends\, and members of the public are invited to join us at the Museum for a special launch day celebration. Students will present their finished boat\, share a little bit about their experience building\, and then we’ll parade them down to the harbor where they will launch the boat for the very first time in the lake. \n\n\n\nThis event is free to join\, no registration required. Light refreshments will be provided.

DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 23 is the first day of the 2026 season! The Museum grounds\, exhibits\, and store will officially open for the season for all to visit and explore. Admission is free for all visitors and we’ll have some fun opening day activities for all ages including:  \n\n\n\n\nOpening of the Museum’s new exhibit\, “Fragments: Voices of the American Revolution on Lake Champlain” \n\n\n\n\n\nUnveiling of a new mural by Juniper Creative Arts  \n\n\n\n\n\nA scavenger hunt for kids of all ages (even grown-up kids!) \n\n\n\n\n\nAn author talk with James Nelson on his book\, Benedict Arnold’s Navy.  \n\n\n\n\n\nFeatured screening of a general overview Ken Burns’ The American Revolution documentary\, thanks to PBS and WETA+ \n\n\n\n\n\nFree museum tours throughout the day \n\n\n\n\n\nAnd more! \n\n\n\n\nOpening day programs are free to attend for all ages\, no registration required.   \n\n\n\nCorporate funding for THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION was provided by Bank of America. DESCRIPTION:Looking for a fun and educational activity for your littlest sailor? Join us on Fridays at 10:30 for Lake Champlain Maritime Museum’s weekly storytime!   \n\n\n\nFamilies with young children (recommended age 5 and younger) are invited to gather with a Museum educator in our historic summer camp building\, the Roost\, as we read some of our favorite stories about Lake Champlain and summer adventures on the water out loud for all to enjoy. Stories will be read as a group and there will also be coloring pages and crafts available afterwards.   \n\n\n\nStorytime meets every Friday from May 29–October 16. This program is free to attend with no registration required.   \n\n\n\nThe Roost is situated off of a gravel path at the back of the Museum green. The ramp at the back of the building is accessible over grass.
